Motohiko Odani

Japan

Born in Kyoto in 1972. Viewing lost perception and transformation as illusions, he explores ambiguous intermediate areas such as awakening and hypnosis, magic and salvation, rationality and irrationality, and human and non-human. He will also conduct research and practice toward a new deconstruction of Japan's modern and contemporary sculpture history. Exhibited at many international exhibitions, including the Japan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2003), the Lyon Biennale (2000), and the Istanbul Biennale (2001). Using not only three-dimensional works but also a variety of media, his meticulously constructed and highly complete works have been praised both at home and abroad. Recent exhibitions include “New Ecology and Art” (Tokyo University of the Arts, University Art Museum, 2022), “Reborn Art Festival 2021-2022 Altruism and Fluidity”, “Setouchi Triennale 2022” (Megijima), “A Gateway to Possible” Worlds” (Center Pompidou Metz, 2022). In 2020, he curated “Public Device: Symbolism and Permanence of Sculpture” (Tokyo University of the Arts Chinretsukan) (co-curator Nodoka Odawara)
