In 2012, the space art community ``beyond'' proposed to the local government the idea of holding a regional art festival in Tanegashima, and began working with local residents on space art initiatives. After five years of preparation, the Tanegashima Space Art Festival Executive Committee was established. The 1st Tanegashima Space Art Festival was held in 2017. The executive committee will be dissolved in 2021. In 2022, Minamitane Town will rebuild its own executive committee structure. The new Tanegashima Space Art Festival will start in spring 2022.
